The inspiration for The Marrow of Tradition comes from the famous Chinese literate Yuan Ming Tao's Peach Blossom Spring, a tale of discovering a hidden paradise. Just like the story, the designer aims to provide a space where people can find their own utopia and reconnect with their original intentions.
One of the standout features of The Marrow of Tradition is its use of wooden pallets for the fence by the store gate. This choice not only adds a touch of elegance but also creates a sense of peace and serenity. The height of the fence is carefully designed not to block the store, allowing visitors to feel a sense of closeness and relaxation as they enter.
The interior of the shop is equally captivating. The counter, designed with an arc shape, extends the spatial dimension, creating a more spacious and visually appealing effect. The main color palette consists of lively green and warm pale wood tones, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. The dining area features tables and chairs in dark and pale wood colors, adding visual layers and depth to the space.
Another notable aspect of the design is the use of tiles on the wall surfaces. This choice not only satisfies the need for easy cleaning but also adds a touch of aesthetic appeal. Different patterns and arrangements of the tiles create a visually stunning effect, enhancing the overall ambiance of the shop.
As visitors make their way to the second floor, they are greeted by a mural that tells a story. The timeline depicted in the mural showcases the mental journey of the proprietor, starting as a vendor and eventually expanding to become a store. The mural serves as a reminder that success often comes with hard work and perseverance, encouraging customers to embrace failure and stay true to their original intentions.
The Marrow of Tradition was completed on August 30, 2017, in Taichung, Taiwan. With its unique design and tranquil atmosphere, it has garnered recognition in the design community. In 2020, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award recognizes the shop's well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements.
Step into The Marrow of Tradition and experience a slice of utopia in the heart of Taichung. Let the serene ambiance and thoughtful design transport you to a world of tranquility and inspiration.
